Wk 4 Vlogging To Promote Your Brand
Greetings Social Media Marketers
I hope that everyone is having fun planing, practicing, and filming your VLOGs.
As you are probably experiencing, effective Blogging and especially Vlogging requires you to be strategic. Some tips that can help you with Vlogs:
Select your market niche (and always keep them in mind). You want to keep in mind at all times, who is your audience, what is important to them, what do they want to watch. It's easy to think about what do I want, how do I want to look, how do I want to sound. Instead, think about what does the audience want, what visuals interest them, what do they want to hear about.
Watch for trends: This can be challenging because you want to leverage a trend, but the most successful jump on a trend before it becomes too saturated. So this requires you to keep your finger on the pulse of what's happening in your niche and then incorporate it in your vlogs.
Focus on Quality: Never forget that successful social media marketers and personalities make things look nature and spontaneous, but it's not. They plan carefully every photo, every video, and every post. They edit and photshop photos and rehearse videos. Successful marketing requires being strategic.
Commenting on Blogs and Videos: This has been said but I will say it again, you cannot grow a social media platform in isolation. At the heart of social media is a sense of community. I think this is especially critical when it comes to Vlogs. Getting someone to watch an entire video, you will find, is more challenging then getting them to skim a Blog. Getting viewers starts with you viewing and actively commenting on others' blogs and videos.
Use The Right Tone: You really have to find your voice, when using Vlogs. Your voice must be authentic while also resonating with your followers. Even though you have practiced your Vlog it has to appear casual, conversational, and not like it's a memorized speech.
Network of media platforms: Remember that your brand should be consistent across all of your social media platforms. Cross "advertise" your posts on all of the accounts in which you are active.
I'd like to hear from you social media marketers, how was your experience making your VLOG this week? What did you enjoy? What challenged you the most? Was the experience the same or different from what you expected? How can you use vlogging as part of your online marketing strategy?

I have found that writing is so much easier than speaking. Putting together the right words with the right tone of voice and facial expression is not easy to do, not to mention trying not to be self conscious while recording yourself. Having experience in “producing” shows during my undergraduate education did not make this assignment easier for me. It will probably take a while to get comfortable doing VLOGs but it is definitely something worth learning and using for marketing the medical practice I work for.
ReplyDeleteMaking VLOG was so hard for me, including editing process. I found out that every Video has someone's devotion. However, I enjoyed the editing process, because handling editing tool was very interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe hardest part was definitetly a filming part. I kept mispronounced "nice to meet you", so I had to go again very many times. I thought it would be easy, but it wasn't. It needed much more efforts and times than I expected. But I think using VLOG can be a boost to marketing because we can show them pictures, letters, and voices all at once. So for my brand, it would be useful when promoting a new videos.
It was my first time to upload a video on YouTube. Until now, I only used YouTube just to watch videos, so making and uploading my VLOG was a tough job for me. Learning to edit videos and to insert music was quite fun, because it was my first time to do so. But honestly, I especially don't like uploading my face in a public platform like YouTube, so that was the most challenging part after all. At first, I though it would be easier than what I expected but when I actually started taking it was different. I had to be careful of the backgrounds, where I look, how I speak, and how I move since it's all being recorded! As part of my online marketing strategy I can use vlogging as a tool if I have to demonstrate something which can not be shown by some pictures or words. I think that's why there are many videos about doing make-up and cooking, because it is more easy to understand rather than just tons of written words. For me, I can use vlogging to show how to edit photos using a photoshop or other photo editing software. Also, by inserting songs, fun effects, and some subtitles, it can be more attractive and interesting to others.
ReplyDeleteI am still preparing for my vlog video. I think the most challenging part of updating Vlog is to come up with interesting information. The video requires a 3 to 5 minutes presentation, that's a lot of content I should come up with. Another challenge is I do not have any experience in shooting video. I do not feel comfortable in from of camera. That's why I do not take pictures of myself in daily life. I like doing all the work behind the camera. After setting up the vlog, I think I will try to overcome my fear. I believe Vlog is a new marketing trend in the future. A successful Vlog can bring a lot of benefits.
ReplyDeleteCreating my first VLOG been a great challenged and time consuming. I didn't realize how much effort you need to make the video accessible for deaf and hard hearing. I purchased the Final Cut Pro and I had some technical difficulty in last few days, however, I managed it and it took three different layers to produce a full video. First layer was the video. Second layer was placing words, logo or texts on screen and third layer was adding open captioned, all three layers were overlapped. Open Captioned was the most time consuming. I had to configure each spoken audio into caption in the right aligned way. With my experience doing the first vlog, It is important to include VLOGGING as part of my marketing strategy and making sure that video is fully accessible. In this case, I would have to create my own small team within my company including writer/proofreader/copyright and Captioning Management. Having a team of Social Media Marketing will provide better time-management and production in order to generate leads and sales. It's all about qualitative (Not Quantity), time and money.
ReplyDeleteI have presented webinars and online trainings multiple times per month, so uploading content is the logical next step in my learnings. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to upload the video and share across multiple platforms. I look forward to creating more financial education videos to distribute!
ReplyDeleteHey,
ReplyDeleteCreating my first VLOG was a real challenge. It takes so much time just to acclimate to being filmed. But it was a great experience. Being challenged and did it aniway make me gain confidence further thant just gain more controle on social media tool. thanks!
It was a great experience to make my first Vlog. I've enjoyed this exercise but it was challenging to face the camera. Nevertheless, it's hard to hear how my accent is bad !
ReplyDeleteHello there,
ReplyDeleteIt was, like for the most of people here, my first Vlog experience and I really enjoyed it. I mean, first, the fact that filming myself was disturbing me but after this I've felt more comfortable.
Indeed, the "creation part" with Imovie was really funny because it was, here again, my first time so I've learned a lot.
I now realize that being an influencer is a full time job !
Thanks !
ReplyDeleteHey,
I found it very funny to see my self talking on the video. It is a good way to see what is good and what is wrong in my talking. I think my experience was the same than what I expected. The first challenge was my skills in english because I had to improvise in english without notes and it is not so easy. I had to repeat before begining and tried again many times. I think pitching videos like that can help to sell and market yourself.
First of all, it was very difficult for me to realize a VLOG: this kind of work was my first experience. This kind of video has the advantage to generate more views, subscriptions, and commitment than the traditional videos, because it is perceived as being more personal, authentic and sincere.
ReplyDeleteIt was very difficult for me to find a theme: in my VLOG, I do not talk to everybody but to my community. Therefore, I have to choose skillfully my theme to be original at the same time and affect enough people. Also, the challenge to be authentic was tough and I know when you’re authentic it’s because it’s with your personality that the VLOG is going to succeed.
I am not surprised about the experience to create a VLOG. I knew that it was going to be difficult. However, there is all the same big one part of pleasure.
Finally, for my VLOG, as regards my marketing strategy:
- I shall use the social media to spread my perimeter of distribution (Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, etc)
- I shall communicate with my community: I shall invite them to comment on my videos and I shall answer as quickly as possible in notice them. I shall answer them in writing, but also in my videos
2 hours of work for 3 minutes of video. I think with time I will get experience so that the time writing, recording , re-recording , editing will be less. I was a little nervous also because I didn't know how I was going to sound? Whether the background was good? And was I talking clearly etc. But at the end I has very happy with the results. I'm really enjoying this class.
ReplyDeleteHello !
ReplyDeleteIt was a great experience to create this VLOG, much more challenging than what I expected. I had trouble to not laugh at myself seing me speaking with my French accent, but I finally managed it (I hope). It's interesting to see and hear myself doing my own promotion, and I tried to apply your advices by thinking about what my audience wants. I worked on my presentation and my fluidity to sound the more natural possible.
I think using VLOGS to promote my brand is something I cannot put aside. It is essential to know how to increase my popularity, and being actively posting and responding to my followers about the newest trends I post is the best way to do it.
Vloging is always a challenging exercise as it forces ourselves to overcome the ridiculousness of the situation of talking alone in front of camera. It makes us realise how much courage or craziness real youtube vlogers have. The most challenging aspect was to try to tell an interesting story in less than 5 mins which I failed. I also planned on adding some outside sequences I filmed all weekend but I realised that the time I would need would not allow me to do something nice and so i decided to let the blog as it was: me talking face to camera.
ReplyDeleteI will anyway finish that project but outside of this class. As a photographer I think that vlogs are pretty useful to show a "behind the scene" of my work and so create more content which will develop my reach. I think that in certain precise field as photo, travel... they're really on the point and are good tools to use in an online marketing strategy.
It was hard for me to create my VLOG because this was first time for me. It takes much time to prepare for this. Speaking to the computer is also challenging, but this experience will be helpful for me.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteShooting my first VLOG was a real challenge. It took a while before I got use to being filmed, and the hardest part was to do it in 1 shot ! I don't know how to edit video's so my only option was to film it in 1 shot, it was very difficult to stay dynamic for the whole videos without any breaks. But after all it was a good experience. At the end it made me be more comfortable doing these type of work. Thank you!
Hi,
ReplyDeleteMaking my first VLOG was long because each time something went wrong so I had to do it again.
I enjoyed rehearse what I was going to say and sometimes improvise because I was inspired. The thing that challenged me the most was my accent, I want to be sure that you will understand everything that I am saying. Also I think that I should have put more intonation in my voice because it is a little bit monotonous.
As I already did a video resume, I was thinking that it would be the same, but actually not because this video was more spontaneous. Vlogging can be a great marketing strategy if you are original to arouse people curiosity and also you can create a serie for people to follow each week what is new.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI think it was a challenge for me, because I don't really like to be filmed. But after few minutes I really enjoyed it, I think it was really fun !
I enjoy the post-production, I tried to add text and others things on my video. It took me times but it was a good way to learn how to deal with "Adode Premiere Pro". My biggest challenge was to try to be natural on the camera.
It was a little bit different because I spend more time than expected on the post-production.
I think vlog is more fun for the viewer because you can really tell a story through a video. You can engage more people with a vlog. But I forgot to ask to my community to post comment or give me feedback at the end of the video. And I think it's really essential to engage your community.

Hello~ for this project, I tried to do my best. It took about 2 hours and half in total to film myself and edit the video. Personally, I enjoyed making my VLOG for this week. Even though it took a lot of time and I was stressed out, but I felt proud of myself when I did it. I enjoyed choosing songs for my background sound. I heard lots of Korean songs and wondered what would be the best. The most challenging part was low sound of my voice. I thought I spoke out loud, but when I started to edit the video, I realized my voice was not as loud as I thought. Filming the whole thing again was exhausting, so I just edited from what I had. But in total, I enjoyed it and want to see how others have done theirs too. Actually, I had a experience editing a video when I was in high school, so editing wasn't a big problem to me. I think this project helped me to remember how I have done on my past videos. Perhaps, if I learn to edit the video professionally, I would like to promote my products online and attract many people :)
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteShooting my first VLOG was a true challenge, but one I enjoyed facing! With several takes for each segment, as well as taking care of the lighting and sound, I learned that the key to Vlogging is, as for everything... Practice!
Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse. Have a script, but don't stick to it completely; when inspiration strikes, be sure to let yourself go.
The greatest challenge was finding an outdoor spot (this reflects my personal brand) which did not have excessive noise, nor too many people wandering in the background.
The experience was what I'd expected: a fun, yet trying, new project with which to develop my brand and reach new audiences. It allows you to create a new type of connection with your audience, transmitting greater transparency and a deeper relationship with your viewers. :)
Hello!
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time that i filmed a VLOG and I like the experience but for other part i don't like to be filmed and show myself in videos, it was a little bit difficult for me because I`m really shy in front of the camera, but it was a really funny experience :)
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI'm not very comfortable with filming myself but I think it is a needed skill for any people nowadays. It took me more time that I exepected because I wanted to film it while I was travelling to grand Canyon the past week end, and film it in cool spots. But unfortatly I was seek and my voice was broken so I needed to change my plan... I am a bit disapointed because I could do a funnier and more intersting video if I did it like I planned. But it was really intereting, and if I have to do it again, I'll definitly will improve the quality of the video.
