Greetings Social Media Marketers I hope that everyone is doing great! As we wind down the class I wanted to talk a little bit about the job opportunities available in the realm of social media marketing.   As you’ve learned there is a lot that falls under social media marketing and there are a lot of new specialties for job opportunities that fall under the category of professional social media marketing. Here are a few prominent ones: 1.        SEO specialization: we only briefly introduced to this, but as I think you have been able to see, there is a heavily strategic (in some ways mathematical) elements to this job.   SEO is not exclusive to social media marketing, but actually encompasses all internet marketing, especially websites.   If you are in an IT related major, you might be interested in SEO specialization. 2.        Online Advertising:   Online advertising now includes paid a...

Wk8 SEO and Viral Marketing

Image
Search Engine Optimization also called, SEO, is simply the strategic attempt to maximize the number of visitors to a particular website, profile, or post through efforts that the site/profile/post appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine.  Another term often used in conjunction is the notion of “viral” marketing which occurs when social media users themselves promote the website/profile/post which snowballs into many, many shares.  Viral posts are wonderful if the public is promoting you in a positive light, on the other hand it can be detrimental to a brand if the viral posts are negative.  The key to remember is that viral media is actually very rare.  It’s considered to be an “outlier” and can be difficult to predict, nearly impossible to manage, and is usually short-lived.  While many will claim that they know the “secret formula” for making content go viral, the reality is there is no one secret formula, but rather a combi...

(Don't worry I won't force you to publish "embarrassing" course assignments.)  Be sure to complete your online profile including a photo and basic professional information (you will not be graded on the depth of the information, but I encourage you to do your best and take pride in your profile).  Next, you are to search through "People" and: 1) Follow at least 3 "celebrity" or famous business people (for example Bill Gates, or any CEOs, etc).   2) Follow at l...

Greetings Social Media Marketers I hope that everyone is doing great!  Hopefully by now you are really enjoying jumping around from platform to platform and happily participating in numerous social media activities.  As you well know, there is a lot of amazing information out on the web.  However, have you ever tried to tell someone about something cool you saw or read, but when you try to show them you realize you can't remember where you saw it!  Was that on Facebook, wait no it was on Twitter?  It can actually get confusing.  Good news there is a way to organize and keep track of all of the cool things you see online.  Better still, there's a way to find what other people thought was really cool online.  It's called, SOCIAL BOOKMARKING . One of the original and biggest social bookmarking platforms is Delicious  this is a great tool for heavy users who are really serious about bookmarking and organizing.  I highly recommend th...
